Employees Can Save Your Network
The first line of defense against your network being attacked is your employees. They are bombareded every day with emails, phone calls even, in some cases, text messages. The bad guys know this and want to exploit their inattention to suspicious communications.
I received this email the other day-
The return address was BB&T Alerts. A closer look revealed the return email address was Bernhard.schwabe@t-online.de. That's a German domain. This email is asking the recipient to "Click Here to Update Your Account Details".
A click there and the work station would be downloading malicious software that would damage just this computer or get itself into the network and cause havoc.
Employers must train their employees NOT to open emails from unknown sources and certainly never click on their links or open attachments that accompany them.
This practice is called 'Phishing", and the threat it presents can be mitigated with a constant focus on bringing it to the attention of employees on a regular basis.
Stay alert, employ the latest security technology and include your employees in your protective footprint and you can avoid disaster.
